Asia’s Kick-Ass Female-Only Bartending Competition Raising Funds for Breast Cancer Research

Speed Rack, the international female-only bartending competition, makes its mark in Asia, debuting in Singapore in 2017. The competition promotes the best female bartending talent and raises funds for breast cancer research. The first ever Asia competition will be held on March 12 at The Great Escape.

In early January, Speed Rack received over 30 applications from the region, from which fourteen from Singapore and six from Asia were selected to participate (see full list below). Those selected will compete in a qualifying round that tests not only speed but aptitude in making four cocktails from the sponsors’ selection of spirits, liqueurs and syrups. The top eight who clock the fastest times will advance to the on-stage live competition. The final stage will be in a Round Robin format, with eight bartenders going head-to-head to battle it out making cocktails in instant elimination rounds. Recipes for this stage of the competition will be chosen at random from a list of 50 industry-standard drinks. The judges will evaluate the drinks based on accuracy, taste and presentation, with the winner claiming the title of Miss Speed Rack Asia 2017.

The event will be open to the public from 11am to 5pm, with the competition held from 2pm to 5pm. Drinks and food are available on site and all proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Foundation. Speed Rack founders Ivy Mix and Lynnette Marrero developed the competition in 2011 to put a spotlight on women bartenders thriving in bars around the country, and in doing so also wanted to give back to and important cause – breast cancer research, education, and prevention.
