It’s an all too familiar feeling: spring has sprung, the smell of fresh flowers and cut grass hangs is in the air, and you begin dreaming of that perfect getaway. Likely a dream is all it can be for the moment, as the freedom of the summer months is still a while off. That doesn’t mean you have to just grin and bear the daily grind though. Why not take a staycation and head to Rutherglen in the City?
For two days this September, Melburnians can leave behind the drudgery of the concrete jungle and pretend they’re prancing through flowering vineyards.
Rutherglen in the City is back for its second year, with 19 producers from the northeastern region heading to the big smoke to host pop-up cellar doors.
Visitors will have the chance to taste a vast selection of wines, including cellar door exclusives and the alternative varietals that have put Rutherglen on the map, such as durif, marsanne, viognier and fiano. If you already have a favourite or discover a gem on the day, each of these wines will be available to purchase to take home.
Along with meeting the winemakers, visitors can take a drink at the wine and cocktail bar, have a bite to eat, or sit back and relax to the sounds of the live music.
