Forget needing an excuse to go out, we’ve got you an Alibi. Sydney’s new cocktail bar in the hot waterfront destination of Woolloomooloo has got everyone talking.

While it might not be the first thing we’d think to mention about a venue, it’s Alibi’s 100% plant-based food offering that has ‘transpired’ an out of this world cocktail menu that broadens the imagination further than we originally thought possible.
Chef Matthew Kenney has brought to life the latest health trend not only in the kitchen but also in the cocktails, creating visuals with ingredients that excite, delight and make you want to dive in to work out what the hell is in there.
Take the Enchanted Forest cocktail (pictured above). It took the team eight months of research and mixing to create this. It features an infusion of fresh Portobello mushrooms and absinthe foam made from green apples. Could you guess that from just looking at it? Perhaps. Or perhaps not. Perhaps that’s part of the mystery of Alibi.
“When the heat is on, we’ve got you, because our place is your place. Welcome to the perfect hideout, welcome to Alibi.
Alibi is a design-led destination cocktail bar with a unique informal lounge setting, serving all the excuses you need to run away and indulge” – Alibi.
How about The Escobar, served in a glass revolver (shown in our lead image), the cocktail combines slow gin, organic mezcal, passionfruit, lemon, bitters, agave and smoked salt… We want that on a Friday night. Similarly, the Trippy Flippy (pictured below) – a cocktail that lets you change the colour in a drop.
We could go on, but why not go exploring and discover for yourself? But before we forget, in case you’re not a cocktail man or woman, there’s also a seriously strong, no fuss wine list of small producers to choose from, picked simply for their drinkability and value. Thirst-quenching seekers can also find beer, cider, spirits and soft drinks.
As for the food, the quality is rivalled. Think kimchi dumplings with sesame and ginger foam, spicy udon filled with Sichuan tempeh, shiitake mushroom, red mustard and toasted cashew or how about the banana split (perhaps not so plant-based but fruits do count, sometimes) – chocolate maca, strawberry goji, vanilla hemp, candied fruit and nuts.
As for the interior, this is the perfect hideaway. Dark enough to seep into the night, but bright enough to keep you inside. Plus there’s plenty of seating to choose from. Take the lounge, bar or a share table. It’s modern. It’s fresh. It’s inviting. Need more of an excuse to go?
