If you’re one of the lucky ones and get to try Michter’s 2019 Celebration Sour Mash, you’ll need to tell us all about it. With only nine bottles available in Australia and with an impressive price tag of $8,500, we have no doubt it will be nothing short of exceptional.
The last release to hit our shores was three years ago, so there has been a long wait between drinks for this collectable, one-of-a-kind whiskey. “We’re really excited to be able to offer the 2019 release to a select few Michter’s supporters in Australia, and as this is Daniel McKee’s first Celebration Sour Mash, it adds an extra dimension to the release, ”said James France, Vanguard Luxury Brands’ founder and Managing Director.
The 2019 release is a blend of whiskey taken from six carefully selected barrels. Michter’s Master Distiller Dan McKee said “Working on my first Celebration release was a labour of love for me. Ultimately, I chose to take whiskey from two Kentucky straight bourbon barrels and four Kentucky straight rye barrels in our stocks.
“Each Celebration release is special and unique, and this year’s release differs from the 2016 one, where the whiskey came from three bourbon barrels and three rye barrels.”
The tasting notes of the release offer a symphony of flavours, highlighted by dark chocolate truffle, savoury characteristics, and a hint of spice. There are notes of citrus and pineapple wrapped in the warmth of clove and cinnamon with the lingering richness of candied pecans and maple syrup on the finish.
