Where to Take Mum This Mother’s Day

In search of somewhere to take mum on Sunday, 13 May? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered and picked our favourite hotspots in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, from fine dining to fun cocktail bars. All you have to do is book!

Chiswick, Sydney

From Chiswick’s kitchen garden comes deliciously fresh ingredients, perfectly paired with new and old boutique wines.

The casual dining experience and seasonal menu designed for sharing creates an atmosphere that is both comforting and contemporary, perfect for spoiling mum. The kitchen garden maintains a strong emphasis on where the food comes from and how it is grown, ensuring that the ingredients and produce are the freshest of their kind. In 2017, the wine list, which offers a balanced selection of wines from around Australia and the world, was given the award for Best Small List at Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards. Thus, it is nearly impossible not to stop in for a Mother’s Day lunch with the family and enjoy a quick bite or a drink at the bar.

fermentAsian, Tanunda SA

An entire restaurant philosophy centred around the combination of natural, pungent Vietnamese herbs and local artisanal wines, which ‘pirouette rather than stomp’.

With her parent’s spectacular vegetable garden right next door, chef-owner Tuoi Do is able to bring fresh food rooted in Vietnamese heritage to her Asian cuisine restaurant. Her award-winning husband, Grant Dickson, works as the sommelier and has put together an impressive yet humble wine list in an effort not to overpower the authentic flavours of the cuisine. The pair has perfected the art of matching exciting local artisanal bottles with their homegrown ingredients. Their passion to support local producers is evident in the selection of imported wine from other Australian regions.

Alibi, Sydney

Ladies, let your hair down at Sydney’s new cocktail bar in the hot waterfront destination of Woolloomooloo.

This bar has the best-looking cocktails we’ve seen and if it’s important to mum, they’re mostly plant-based, as is the food. Sink into the relaxing yet vibrant atmosphere with a Lady In Red cocktail, and then try the kimchi dumplings with sesame and ginger foam; the spicy udon filled with Sichuan tempeh, shiitake mushroom, red mustard and toast cashew; and finish on the banana split (not so plant-based), packed with chocolate maca, strawberry goji, vanilla hemp, candied fruits and nuts.

Rockpool Bar & Grill, Perth

Spoil mum this Mother’s Day and drop in before a great show at Crown Theater for a meal featuring some of Australia’s best types of beef and a selection of wine from an enormously extensive list.

Similar to its counterpart in Sydney, Head Chef Neil Perry’s unique steakhouse concept is complete with an open kitchen and, of course, his signature wood fire grill. Fill your plate with any of the restaurant’s three most organic, hormone free beefs: Blackmore’s Wagyu, Cape Grim or Minderoo. Then, grab the list of 1350 wines and let your taste buds do the choosing. When you are full of both, pat your mouth clean, grab your coat and head down the street for a stunning stage performance to end your night.
