Very Rare 30 Year Old Tawny – tasted

McWilliams have recently released a range of fortified wines heralding the return of the grand days of Australian fortifieds. It wasn’t that long ago that fortified wines were the staple of Australian households, with contemporary table wine not becoming popular until the 70’s and 80’s. Our heritage in the fortified wine category is world-leading, and McWilliam’s are pioneers with multi-generational winemakers still involved in the making of these wines.

McWilliam’s Very Rare 30-Year Aged Tawny

Region:   Hanwood, NSW

Varietal/style:      Tawny

ABV:                  19.5%

RRP:                  $175

Comments:         On the nose we saw an earthy, nutty characteristic that stems from 30 years in barrel. A touch of old leather and some tropical fruit. On the palate, intense flavours of Christmas cake, caramel with a touch of bitterness. Toffee jumps out along with dark chocolate, some vanilla and a full and voluptuous mouthfeel carrying the 19.5% abv to an even, and long, finish. AP.
