What’s on This Weekend: Food & Drink Events

If you’re anything like us, your weekends are spent exploring new local cafés and bars, searching for the next best thing in food and drink. That’s why we’ve put together a list of places and events to visit this Saturday and Sunday.

WATCH VIVID AT A ROOFTOP GIN BAR

Want to know the best spot to see Vivid? We’ll let you in on a little secret. Bombay Sapphire has partnered with the Museum of Contemporary Art to create a rooftop pop-up gin bar for the duration of the festival. From here, you can escape the crowds, take in all the impressive lights that bedazzle Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, and of course, enjoy a gin & tonic (or two).

GREAT AUSTRALASIAN BEER SPECTAPULAR SYDNEY

Calling all beer lovers, this weekend is your last chance to get to Australia’s quirky and fun-filled beer, cider and food festival. In Sydney on Saturday, GABS will have over 500 new and experimental drops for you to try from local and New Zealand breweries. The event is also jam-packed with entertainment from the ever-popular Holey Moley Golf, the Yenda Wheel of Beer, roaming circus performers and GABS Silent Disco.

ART CLASS + BYO

Let wine be your muse in this BYO art class (you can also bring beer and nibbles). The mantra at Cork & Canvas is ‘drink, paint and create’ – you don’t need any experience to take part in these 2-3 hour classes and all the painting utensils are supplied. Simply show up with your friends and a few bottles, and get ready to have a lot of fun. Below are the two classes on this weekend in Sydney and Melbourne.

HEAD TO SYDNEY’S NEWEST MICROBREWERY

Australia’s first brewer has a new home and you’re invited to pop in for a drink. Located at Circular Quay’s Overseas Passenger Terminal, with views of the Opera House, is The Squire’s Landing – a two-storey restaurant, microbrewery and bar. Here, you can enjoy one of James Squire’s many beers, including small-batch brews made on site, some hearty pub grub and views of the ocean the famous man once sailed upon.

GIN MASTERCLASS AT THE CRICKETERS

Thursday is the new Friday in our books and there’s nothing like welcoming in the weekend with a delicious gin & tonic. That’s why we’re heading to The Cricketers in Port Melbourne for Botanical Thursdays. On every week, the event lets you pick a flight of gins to then mix and match to a range of tonics and garnishes until you find your favourite. You don’t have to book, just head to the Beefeater 24 Gin Garden inside the venue.
