After a squabble with council caused by a misunderstanding over a fire-hydrant, Moon Dog’s much anticipated western-themed brewpub was finally able to open up to the public from 11:30 am this morning.

The new venue, which spans 1000-square metres across three levels, boasts more than 100 beer taps and has the capacity to house up to 800 patrons. This makes Wild Westmore than double the side of its Moon Dog World venue in Preston.

“With a venue of this size, we knew we could achieve something that hasn’t been seen before and really go bigger than we ever have,” said Joshua Uljans, Moon Dog’s CEO & Co-Founder.

“We’re hoping to create somewhere for people to enjoy the outrageousness of it all.”

Keeping in tune with its theme, Wild West will feature a Honky Tonk bar complete with Blues Brothers-inspired stage, a balcony outpost lounge, a secret Pianola Bar and function space, and a top-floor rooftop bar.

The food menu also follows suit mixing pub classics such as parmas and burgers and Texas-inspired dishes such as fajitas, double-decker tacos, and a 1kg T-bone steak.

The drinks menu will include Moon Dog’s full range of independent craft beers and seltzers, supported by a variety of wines, spirits, non-alc offerings, and themed cocktails and shots such as Tequila Sunrise Slushies and Cowboy Shots served in miniature cowboy boots.

“We’re so excited to join the vibrant Footscray community in such an iconic location,” said Karl van Buuren, Co-Founder of Moon Dog.

“The support has been overwhelming, and we can’t wait to finally throw open the doors and welcome everyone in for a cold beer.”

The Wild West brewpub is only one of two new Moon Dog venues being unveiled to the public this year, with its Doglands venue,  located on the Marvel Stadium concourse, set to become Moon Dog’s biggest once opened in July.

Moon Dog has also started working on a sea-side Frankston venue, with more details expected to be made public soon.
